Visit the inspiring beauty of the Sicilian countryside in the Spring to hone your skills as a food-writer on this 5-day intensive workshop led by acclaimed food writers and authors Luisa Weiss and Rachel Roddy. During the workshop, readings and craft talks will be followed by group discussions, writing exercises and space in which to execute them.

Sicilian Natural Wine Workshop

It’s not all cannoli and caponata, Sicily is also growing in fame for its wide variety of wines. Come explore the diverse terroir found around the island through tales and tastings with some of the best wine makers around. What better way to explore the Sicilian wine world than from an estate surrounded by vineyards?

The aim of this workshop is to introduce participants to diverse wines and winemakers from Sicily. We will explore the language around wine, tasting and talking with a number of different producers who range in practice from conventional to natural and biodynamic winemaking process. Come taste for yourself what this beautiful island has to offer!

Costs

Single Room: €2,850

Double Room: €5,150

Costs include accommodation at Case Vecchie or one of the nearby cottages, and indicated lessons, meals, wine and excursions. Workshops mix together the best of many worlds. You will have access to special guests and activities that are outside of the typical Case Vecchie schedule. However, you can always plan on delicious meals with seasonal ingredients. Lunch and dinner are served with wines from the Tasca d’Almerita estate, and breakfast is a bounty of homemade cakes, jams and coffee and tea. Typical meals and cooking lessons include three or four courses.

Monday, March 30: Settling In

3:00 to 5:00 pm: Check-in

7:30 pm: Welcome aperitivo and Sicilian style dinner

 

Tuesday, March 31: Welcome to the wine world

9:00 am: Bountiful breakfast with homemade jams, cakes, coffee, tea and seasonal fruit.

10:00 am: Session on the wine making process followed by a tour of the Tasca d’Almerita cantina and tasting of wines.

1:00 pm: Lunch around the table.

2:30 pm: Afternoon to rest, relax and enjoy the surroundings.

5:30 pm: In the kitchen for a Sicilian cooking lesson.

 

Wednesday, April 1: Nature does it best

9:00 am: Bountiful breakfast with homemade jams, cakes, coffee, tea and seasonal fruit.

10:00 am – 4:00 pm: Natural wine tasting and session with Sandro Sangiorgi, sommelier and natural wine expert. During this session we will taste over 10 natural wines followed by a paired lunch with 6 wines.

8:00 pm: Dinner around the table.

 

Thursday, April 2: Meet the producers

9:00 am: Bountiful breakfast with homemade jams, cakes, coffee, tea and seasonal fruit.

10:00 am: Hear their story straight from the source. A talk on practices and principles of one local wine producer with a tasting of their wines.

1:00 pm: Paired wine lunch with the producer.

2:30 pm: Rest, relax and enjoy the surroundings.

5:00 pm: Hike through the vineyards followed by aperitivo and dinner around the table.

 

Friday, April 3: Meet the producers round two

9:00 am: Bountiful breakfast with homemade jams, cakes, coffee, tea and seasonal fruit.

10:00 am: Hear their story straight from the source. A talk on practices and principles of one local wine producer with a tasting of their wines.

1:00 pm: Paired wine lunch with the producer.

2:30 pm: Rest, relax and enjoy the surroundings.

5:30 pm: Sicilian cooking lesson followed by dinner around the table.

 

Saturday, April 4: Farewell

9:00 am: Bountiful breakfast with homemade jams, cakes, coffee, tea and seasonal fruit.

10:00 am: Checkout and good-byes

*Airfare and transportation to and from Case Vecchie are not included in the price. Please request transportation arrangements at the time of booking if you would like us to book a car to and from the estate.
